pray for the falsely taught

This weekend was the Harry Potter weekend on ABC Family [only one of my favorite weekends!!!] and after the final movie in the series ended, another show came on as they normally do when the preceding one ends. This one was titled “Joel Osteen.”

Now, you are probably familiar with this man, his tv show, and his church [notice I said his church and not God’s church]. I had never seen or heard what he preaches to thousands of people and I decided to listen to him and particularly listen for his false teachings.

From the beginning I was so uncomfortable listening to this man tell thousands of people a feel-good message and throw in a few Bible verses that are taken out of context to fit his message. In the few minutes that I watched, I became so heartbroken for those who listen and apply his teachings to their lives.

He constantly spoke about the self and nothing about God. It was all about how we feel and if we are happy with our jobs, our spouse, anything that has to do with us. In this teaching, he constantly repeated how we should be happy and thank the Lord for this day.

He didn’t speak about how we should be living according to the scriptures [and not twisting the Word of God to say what we want it to]. He didn’t speak about how we should be learning more about God and growing in the knowledge of God. He didn’t speak about how we should be serving the God of the universe by obeying His commands–going to the ends of the Earth to proclaim His glorious name to those who do not believe.

This is not ok. Everything is NOT fine.

We need to be watchful. We need to be sure that the truth is told. In obedience to God, we need to live out Matthew 28:19-20.

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

I propose that we fight. We have to fight against these false teachers.

Brothers and Sisters, they need prayer.

Joel Osteen’s 43 THOUSAND-person audience [plus those who watch him on TV] needs prayer. They need men and women of God to show them God’s commands. They need to be taught the gospel, and not a twisted version to ensure that an audience will hear what they want to hear. They need to be taught that walking with Christ is not easy and that we face trials every day, but by the grace of The Father, He gives us the perseverance to continue on. To continue on living out the gospel and joyfully and willingly sharing this with those who do not know Him.

Pray for the lost souls. Pray for Joel Osteen, his family, and those who are putting together the information that is being taught to the lost souls–that they would have an encounter with the Holy Spirit and know that what they are teaching is not of the Lord. Pray specifically.

1Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. [1 John 4:1-3]
